Knapp's Relational Model
I recently made a friend, but the problem is that I live in Mexico while my friend lives in the United States. Despite this, we have been able to communicate through Whatsapp and other apps. Our friendship has become closer than any of my in-person friendships, and I believe this is because it's easier to start up a conversation online and we can express our emotions without fear of being judged. We may feel safer talking online because we aren't seeing each other's faces, which has encouraged us to be more vulnerable and disclose emotional or personal issues.
I would say that in regard to Knapp's Relational Model, we went through the "coming together" stages more quickly than usual because of our online communication. Knapp's Relational Model portrays how relationships develop and fall apart across ten stages which are divided into "coming together" and "coming apart." My friend and I are currently at the integration stage. This is the point where you begin to speak about things as "we" or "us." An example of this stage is when you post a picture with your friend on social media.
